Town Voters Approve $20,600 for Willow Street Bridge Reconstruction Easements
Key Points
- $20,600 appropriated for land damages and easements
- Necessary for the rehabilitation and expansion of Willow Street Bridge
- Funded via Chapter 90 funds
- Design will accommodate an essential town water main
Article 30 authorized the Town of Marshfield to take temporary and permanent easements by eminent domain for the reconstruction of the Willow Street Bridge. Town Engineer Ken Ryan explained that the bridge is in need of repair and the new design requires a slight expansion on each side to improve water flow. The $20,600 appropriation for appraised land damages will be funded from previously authorized Chapter 90 funds.
Residents raised questions about the impact on recreational use and infrastructure. In response to questions about the bridge's height, Ryan stated that while it isn't being raised significantly, the wider span will allow more water to pass through. Resident Dave Carrier inquired about a water main installed several years ago; Ryan assured the meeting that the plans include carrying the water main across the new structure and that the project would not interfere with the water supply.
Motion: The board of public works moves that the town vote to authorize the town of Marshfield to take by eminent domain temporary and permanent easements for the purpose of reconstructing the Willow Street Bridge and to appropriate the sum of $20,600 for appraised land damages.
Vote: Passed by 2/3 Majority
